Shall We March To The Tune Of A Different Drum For 2006? I am now in my 32nd year of Family Medicine and Hypnosis Practice. It is puzzling, how as a society, we are always trying to gain good health via a pill, a new instant technology, a new food supplement, a new diet, a new exercise program-- and the list goes on and on. It has been said "In these modern times, too many of us sacrifice our health to make money and then use that money to regain our health". I agree with that statement. In our fast paced, future paced, mental multitasking approach to life, there is little opportunity to slow down, relax and appreciate the moment and learn about our inner selves. Hypnosis and meditation can provide a way to do that. It can provide a way to explore your relationship to food, to yourself, and to your body. In my private practice as a therapist, I frequently ask my patients during hypnosis to be still and calm and just for a little while completely "in the moment". I tell them, "The past is history, the future, whether good or bad is yet to be, so lets just enjoy this moment and, in this moment, you can make promises to yourself which you choose to honor as sacred" This year, why not take a few moments each day to march to the tune of a different drum? For example, if you are struggling with weight, convince yourself to change a few habits. Specifically, why not let go of any reason to consume soft drinks, snack and junk food? Instead, simply find pleasure in fresh non processed foods. Why not walk more, watch less TV, and when you eat, pay attention and be present to what you are doing rather than scarf down the food while talking, or working or arguing? Spend some time daily to be with yourself and discover you can manage your emotions without eating, smoking, or drinking. As a doctor, my aim is to stimulate your thinking so that you realize something absolutely and always true: Your Health is Your Most Precious Possession. You can find great pleasure in taking good care of yourself in a healthy, low tech way. These themes are present in all my self help materials. I look forward to improving them, and to creating new hypnosis CDs on new wellness topics. I hope all of you will, in time, learn to march to the tune of a different drum. I enjoy hearing from you! |
